Frequently asked questions.

Does Covid-19 impact delivery?

All necessary precautions will be taken within national guidelines to ensure a safe delivery of your tree to your home and trees will be left and collected from outside your home so we can avoid coming in. Please let us know if you have Covid or are shielding.

Why only Norway Spruce trees?

Norway Spruce is the traditional Christmas tree found in many homes during December.  It has the shape, smell and tradition of Christmas past.  This is the species of Christmas tree donated by the people of Oslo, Norway to the people of London every year since 1947 as a sign of gratitude for help during the 2nd World War.  The tree is prominently displayed in Trafalgar Square, during the Christmas season (it's usually over 20m tall!). Norway Spruce Firs are great for pot-grown trees and Rooted’s trees start at 3ft or 90cm tall. The fact Rooted only hire living trees means their trees don’t drop their needles everywhere as they stay living (and forever green) when watered well.

Do all Rooted trees come with a pot?

Yes. All Rooted’s trees come with a pot with in-built water reservoir to ensure watering is easy and tree care is hassle free so the tree is happy in your home over Christmas.

Is delivery and collection included in the cost?

Yes. Rooted includes a hassle-free door-to-door service. We will drop off and collect your tree (for a £5 fee) and this is included in the shipping cost. (Available for Walsden, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge postcodes only).

How do I pay? How much is the deposit?

Your transaction is confirmed once your order is in the system. This includes the hire cost of your chosen tree (from £40) and a £15 deposit. And if you want us to deliver and collect a £5 fee is applied at shipping. You can pay using all major credit cards and Apple Pay online. We will email you to confirm your order has been successful.

When do I get my deposit back?

Your £15 deposit will be returned in January, when your tree, pot and packaging are returned to us in good condition. We will send an email to confirm when this has been sent.

Is it easy to look after a pot-grown tree?

If you can look after a house plant you can take care of a tree in a pot. We also make it as easy as possible for you to keep the tree happy over Christmas with a tree care guide and a pot with an in-built water reservoir to ensure the tree is not sitting in water but always has access to water - all you need to do is water daily to ensure the tree stays happy. If you keep the soil moist but not too soggy, it’ll be reet.

Is there anything I shouldn’t put on the tree?

Yes please, we advice no spray tinsel, flocking or fake snow sprays. Not only are they bad for the environment, the chemicals can harm the tree which doesn’t make for a happy tree or happy customers as you may lose your deposit.

What if the tree dies?

This is very unlikely. If you follow the tree-care guide and keep the tree well watered, you’ll have a happy tree. If we or you have any concerns about your tree, we are very happy to discuss this together.

Do I need to retain the packaging?

Yes please. We re-use and recycle as much as we can at Rooted so please insert your tree back into the hessian sack and tie the ties (the care instructions explain how to easily do this) to ensure the safe return of the tree back to us undamaged. Please also pop the tree label (with your name and address) back on the tree so we can return your full deposit.

Is there a difference between pot-grown and potted trees?

Yes. Our container or pot-grown trees are grown in containers that we plant into the field from 3 year old saplings, therefore they have a full root system.

Potted trees are dug up out of the ground, often damaging the roots and placed in a pot just before December.

Pot-grown trees have the best chance of survival if left in the supplied pot and re-planted out after Christmas and then re-potted into a larger pot in spring to allow continued growth and a healthy root system.

How old are the trees?

Rooted trees are between 1 - 12 years old. We start hiring out 3ft trees which can be 5-6 years old up to 6/7ft trees which could have been living for 10 years+.
